FLASHCARDS

Two right answers and it’s learned.

A new word is asked twice. The second time comes at least ten minutes later, so it is real recall and not a repeat. After that it comes back for review: a day later, then at longer and longer intervals.

+2 · learned
The Flashcards practice: the German word “der Baum” with four meanings to pick from; “tree” is picked and marked right.

HOW COINS WORK

One coin for every right answer.

Coins drop into a glass jar on your home screen. Sentences pay two, and so does the answer that makes a word learned. Coins can’t be bought: every one in the jar is an answer you got right.

A glass jar a third full of gold coins, drawn in line art.

SENTENCES

Practice the words in sentences.

Every word comes with three example sentences, and it meets you in a different one each time. Pick the word that fits the gap. Then see the sentence in English, if you want to.

The Sentences practice: “Im Garten wachsen Tomaten und Kräuter.” with its English translation under it; the word “Garten” was picked for the gap.

LISTENING · MATCHING

Hear it. Type it.Match it.

Every word and every sentence is read aloud from a recording, with no connection needed. Type what you hear, or pair words with their meanings.

More practices open as your words add up: Articles (der, die or das?) at 100 words, Opposites at 250, Adverbs and conjunctions at 500.

The Listening practice in Turkish: a round yellow button plays a word, and “merhaba” is typed into the text box.
The Matching practice in Turkish: Turkish words such as “merhaba”, “evet” and “hayır” in one column and English meanings in the other; “merhaba” is picked.

THE GARDEN

Spend your coins on plants.

Eighteen plants, from an echeveria to a lemon tree, and four kinds of tile: stone and wooden paths, grass and ponds. Turn the garden with a finger and hold a plant to move it. When every spot is taken, save the garden as a picture and start a new one.

And when your phone goes dark, the string lights come on.

GARDEN FOR TWO

Grow a gardenwith a friend.

One of you makes a six-character code, the other types it in, and from then on you plant in the same garden. Every plant wears the ribbon of whoever planted it, and a bar shows how many coins each of you has spent.

A one-time in-app purchase. You both unlock it.

A garden for two in the app: plants with green ribbons are yours, plants with violet ribbons are Anna’s, and a bar shows the coins each of you has spent.
